Blanketing differences among globular cluster giants
Intermediate-band observations of differential blanketing in giants inOmega Cen are analyzed by the methods of Searle and Zinn (1978) toobtain the general abundance parameter S and thence Fe/H. In the sampleobserved, the range of Fe/H is -1.8 to -0.8, in accord with the spreadin composition of the bulk of the RR Lyrae stars. The effects ofbackwarming by CO blanketing are investigated through study of /S,dereddened (B-V)/ relations. It is found that CO is correlateddichotomously with Fe/H for most clusters. M5 shows variable CO for agiven Fe/H, while in Omega Cen, Fe correlates with CO monotonically.Conjectures regarding variable mass fuctions are made in this context
