Arcsecond Positions of UGC Galaxies We present accurate B1950 and J2000 positions for all confirmed galaxiesin the Uppsala General Catalog (UGC). The positions were measuredvisually from Digitized Sky Survey images with rms uncertaintiesσ<=[(1.2")2+(θ/100)2]1/2,where θ is the major-axis diameter. We compared each galaxymeasured with the original UGC description to ensure high reliability.The full position list is available in the electronic version only.

Kinematics of the local universe. VII. New 21-cm line measurements of 2112 galaxies This paper presents 2112 new 21-cm neutral hydrogen line measurementscarried out with the meridian transit Nan\c cay radiotelescope. Amongthese data we give also 213 new radial velocities which complement thoselisted in three previous papers of this series. These new measurements,together with the HI data collected in LEDA, put to 6 700 the number ofgalaxies with 21-cm line width, radial velocity, and apparent diameterin the so-called KLUN sample. An image database. II. Catalogue between δ=-30deg and δ=70deg. A preliminary list of 68.040 galaxies was built from extraction of35.841 digitized images of the Palomar Sky Survey (Paper I). For eachgalaxy, the basic parameters are obtained: coordinates, diameter, axisratio, total magnitude, position angle. On this preliminary list, weapply severe selection rules to get a catalog of 28.000 galaxies, wellidentified and well documented. For each parameter, a comparison is madewith standard measurements. The accuracy of the raw photometricparameters is quite good despite of the simplicity of the method.Without any local correction, the standard error on the total magnitudeis about 0.5 magnitude up to a total magnitude of B_T_=17. Significantsecondary effects are detected concerning the magnitudes: distance toplate center effect and air-mass effect.

Galaxy structures in the Hercules region 216 redshifts have been obtained in a region of 981 sq deg south of theHercules supercluster. 172 of these redshifts are of galaxies withmpg less than or equal to 15.1, 110 of which had no previousvelocity measurement. 44 new redshifts are of galaxies fainter thanmpg = 15.1. With these new data we have been able to define asample in a vast region (approximately 1700 sq deg) around Herculeslimited to mpg less than or equal to 15.1 with a velocitycompleteness of 81.5%. 189 galaxies have been morphologically classifiedso that all galaxies in the sample with known velocity now also haveknown morphology. The magnitude limited sample, including 556 galaxies,is then used to identify and describe galaxy structures in the region.We find that the overdense volume is small, that its overall appearanceis that of a coral branch floating in a sea of nothing and that earlyand late type galaxies defined different structures.

The Case Low-Dispersion Northern Sky Survey. XIII - A region in central Bootes and Corona Borealis Positions, estimated magnitudes, and finding charts (when necessary) areprovided for 138 blue and/or emission-line galaxies, four H II regionsin two galaxies, 83 unresolved blue and/or emission-line objects,including QSO candidates, and 36 known and suspected blue stars in aabout 100 sq deg region in central Bootes and Corona Borealisencompassed primarily in the region R.A. between 14h 08m and 16h 10m andDecl. between 29 deg 30 min and 33 deg 30 min (1950). The objects, whoseblue magnitudes are mostly within the range 15-18, were identified onlow-dispersion objective-prism plates taken with the Burrell Schmidttelescope at Kitt Peak.

The far-infrared properties of the CfA galaxy sample. I - The catalog IRAS flux densities are presented for all galaxies in the Center forAstrophysics magnitude-limited sample (mB not greater than 14.5)detected in the IRAS Faint Source Survey (FSS), a total of 1544galaxies. The detection rate in the FSS is slightly larger than in thePSC for the long-wavelength 60- and 100-micron bands, but improves by afactor of about 3 or more for the short wavelength 12- and 25-micronbands. This optically selected sample consists of galaxies which are, onaverage, much less IR-active than galaxies in IR-selected samples. Itpossesses accurate and complete redshift, morphological, and magnitudeinformation, along with observations at other wavelengths.

A model for far-IR emission of non-Seyfert Markarian galaxies The paper presents simple models for the FIR emission from extended H IIregions and from cooler dust heated by the general interstellarradiation field. The models account for a realistic grain-sizedistribution including PAH molecules. In addition, the model explainsthe observed correlation between the FIR to optical luminosity ratio andthe 60-10 micron colors.

H I survey of face-on galaxies - The frequency of distortions in H I disks The full results of an H I survey of face-on galaxies are presented andit is shown that narrow H I profiles are rare in normal spiral galaxies.This is due in part to the wider-than-expected range of the integraldispersion and in part to the frequent occurrence of large-scaledistortions in the H I disk. These factors reduce the number of galaxieswith half-power widths less than 30 km/s to about 24 percent of thosethat would occur if galaxies generally had quiescent, coplanar H Idisks. Two useful subsets may be drawn from this study of 212 face-ongalaxies with axial ratios greater than 0.87. Fifty-two spirals of allmorphological types have half-power widths smaller than 100 km/s and maybe used for studies that benefit from a small velocity spread and anenhanced beam-filling factor. About 40 galaxies have velocity widthsmuch larger than expected and are of interest in studies of dynamicallypeculiar systems.

A study of a flux-limited sample of IRAS galaxies Redshift data and accurate four-color infrared photometry are presentedfor a complete IRAS sample of galaxies brighter than 2 Jy at 60 microns.A simple power law provides a good fit to the distribution forluminosities from 10 to the 10th to 10 to the 12th solar. There is noindication of an exponential dropoff in the luminosity function at highenergies. A flattening of the luminosity function occurs at L less than10 to the 20th solar. The highest luminosity galaxies typically arefound in multiple, possibly interacting, systems and exhibit marginallynarrower infrared spectral energy distributions than the isolatedspirals which predominate at low luminosities. Infrared-bright galaxiescome from a different population than the majority of optically brightgalaxies. In particular, galaxies of low blue luminosity are not stronginfrared emitters.

Empirical properties of nearby groups of galaxies A new list of nearby groups was composed by Vennik (1984) on the basisof radial velocity data of galaxies using the hierarchical clusteringtechnique described by Materne (1978) and Tully (1980). This paperpresents a detailed analysis of empirical properties of groups on thebasis of that list. Various group selection criteria are compared, andthe main parameters of individual groups, possible selection effects,and relationships between various properties of the groups arediscussed. Synthesized groups are composed based on the luminosities ofthe groups and the dominating morphology.

Probes of large-scale structure in the Corona Borealis region The present redshift survey of the Corona Borealis region encompassesredshifts, magnitudes and positions for 83 galaxies covering a 16.4 sqdeg region; a complementary survey covers 39.2 sq deg, is complete tom(B)0 of 15.5, and encompasses 37 galaxies. The combined surveyfurnishes further support for the 'bubble-like' geometry revealed by theshallower CfA survey. The redshift distribution obtained is noted to bevery similar to that in the neighboring Bootes region. The structure ofvoids and surfaces in the galaxy distribution is insensitive toluminosity for M(B)0 of less than about -17.4.

A survey of galaxy redshifts. IV - The data The complete list of the best available radial velocities for the 2401galaxies in the merged Zwicky-Nilson catalog brighter than 14.5mz and with b (II) above +40 deg or below -30 deg ispresented. Almost 60 percent of the redshifts are from the CfA surveyand are accurate to typically 35 km/s.

Radial velocities of galaxies detected in the Arecibo 2380 MHz survey The Loiano telescope's image tube spectrograph was used to obtain thepreviously unknown radial velocities of 50 galaxies detected during theArecibo 2380 MHz survey of bright galaxies, leading to the determinationof 224 radio-detected galaxy redshifts north of 15 deg. Both a 100km/sec typical standard error and minus 60 plus or minus 20 km/secsystematic zero error are derived for the velocities presented, on thebasis of comparisons with other redshift sources made on a furthersample of 35 galaxies.
